Celebrate National Toothbrush Day – June 26th
National toothbrush day is today, June 26. To celebrate, we thought we’d take a look back at the history of brushes.
Toothbrushes, have been around since 3000 BC. During this time ancient civilizations used twigs with frayed ends to rub against teeth. What we consider to be a toothbrush today was likely first invented in 1498 in China. The brush was made of hairs of hog’s neck attached to a bamboo handle. In 1938 Nylon bristles took the place of boar bristles. During World War II Americans, concerned with oral hygiene, began to use more nylon bristle brushes.
